Munro presented and co-produced a four-part science-based documentary series about Bushrangers for Foxtel’s History Channel in 2017. The Real Bushrangers – Lawless The crime scenes of Ned Kelly, Ben Hall, Captain Moonlite, and the Kenniff brothers were featured in the four episodes. Munro’s great uncles, Paddy and Jimmy Kenniff, were featured in one of the one-hour programs after being convicted of murdering a police policeman and a station manager in Queensland’s Carnarvon Ranges.

Munro hosted Mateship – Australia and the United States: A Century Together, a one-hour documentary on Foxtel’s History channel in 2018 commemorating 100 years of the tight relationships that unite Australia and the United States. Munro went on to work as a reporter and then as the host of A Current Affair. Munro was the reporter at the center of the infamous Paxton family expose in 1996. Munro was replaced as the show’s host in 2003. His then-boss, Peter Meakin, later described Munro’s situation/behavior as “a little on the nose, a little out of favour, a little too brash” at the time. Meakin went on to say that he “really admires his (Munro’s) courage and grace”… “in those last few months at A Current Affair because he did a brilliant job” while knowing he was about to leave the gig.

Munro claimed he was fired because he was constantly complaining to management about A Current Affair becoming ‘A Consumer Affair’ and no longer conducting meaningful investigations, instead focused on consumer and diet stories. The final straw for Munro came when he had to introduce another reporter’s piece about a toothbrush survey.

He is inseparable from the historical show This Is Your Life, which he facilitated from 1995 until 2005 and afterward again in 2008. He took Georgie Gardner’s place on National Nine News Afternoon Edition in 2005. He retired from National Nine News Afternoon Edition in 2006, but he continued to host Sydney’s National Nine News weekend news until 2008.

Also in 2006, Munro and Megan Gale hosted the television series What a Year and Missing Persons Unit, which premiered on the Nine Network on October 2, 2006. However, the show was canceled after Bert Newton and Julia Zemiro took their place in 2007.

On 26 October 2008, Munro left the Nine Organization following 22 years with the organization. On 7 January 2009, he marked a three-year contract with rival Seven Organization to turn into the establishing host of another ongoing issues program Sunday Night.
