Lawrence Career
Lawrence began his career performing poetry at open mic nights in 1998, when he was 15 years old. In 2010, Lawrence was chosen as one of the new faces of the world’s biggest comedy show, Just for Laughs. She later performed at the Montreal and Chicago Music Festivals in 2012. While in Montreal, she wrote an episode for HBO Canada’s Funny as Hell. In 2011, Lawrence performed in “Laugh” at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Lance Bangs With Us alongside Kristen Schaal, Fred Armisen, Jon Daly and Brett Gelman. Mike also performed in John Oliver’s New York stand-up show alongside Hannibal Buress, Michael Ian Black and Harry Kondabolu. Soon he was opening for Olivier regularly.
Lawrence also made her debut on Conan O’Brien’s television show Conan in 2012. In 2013, his comedy album Sadamantium was released by Comedy Central Records, along with the half-hour special The Half Hour. Sadamantium was recorded in the Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown Comics. The album received positive reviews from The Huffington Post and The AV. “Club”, “American Comedy” and “Laugh Button”. In September, he wrote an article for the Huffington Post titled “Five Important Things I Learned as a Comic Book Artist in New York that I Will Share in New Comics,” in which he shared his thoughts on art and craft. He’s starring in Conan again this year. Lawrence wrote an article and appeared as a guest on W. Kamau Bell’s program Totally Biased.
In 2016, Mike won the first season of Roast Battle hosted by Jeff Ross. Lawrence hosts the “Nerd of Mouth” podcast with Jake Young on Cave Comedy Radio, a comedy podcast network in New York City. Episodes are released weekly. The podcast discusses topics such as Lawrence’s favorite comics, video games, TV shows, and movies. In 2013, Lawrence and the podcast appeared on an episode of Toy Hunters called Nerd of Mouth.
