He founded and is the owner of Profootballtalk.com, where he writes. Alongside Chris Simms, he also anchors the NFL chat show PFT Live on Peacock every day. Florio appears on the Sunday Night Football digital postgame program and contributes to NBC’s Sunday night NFL studio show Football Night in America. Other commentators, like Jason Garrett, Devin McCourty, and Maria Taylor, make appearances as the show covers the main stories in the NFL each day. In addition, he and Peter King appear at halftime of NBC’s Notre Dame football broadcast to talk about current NFL issues. He is the author of the book Playmakers: How the NFL Really Works (And Doesn’t), which was published in March 2022.
In June 2000, Florio started writing about sports for the now-defunct website NFLtalk.com. After that, ESPN.com purchased the website, and Florio kept up his rumor and news reporting there. He spent six months as an employee of ESPN.com. Florio launched the National Football League-focused website and blog Profootballtalk.com on November 1, 2001. At the time, Florio, 36, started Profootballtalk.com as an additional source of income for his labor law practice in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Profootballtalk.com announced on June 14, 2009, that it would affiliate with NBC Sports. Under the terms of the agreement, NBC Sports would have exclusive rights to Profootballtalk (PFT) material, with Florio maintaining ownership through revenue sharing.
Following his partnership with NBC, Florio started to contribute to the television coverage of NBC Sports, which included Football Night in America. In June 2020, it was revealed that Florio had made offensive remarks toward the LGBT community as well as the disabled population in PFT articles from 2005 and 2006. Derogatory terminology including “homos,” “fruits,” “queers,” and “fudge packers” were used in these remarks. Florio apologized on June 26, 2020, for his remarks.Florio is a Minnesota Vikings fan and was a lawyer for eighteen years.
