In the Season Five episode “The Fight,” he played Jonathan “Prophet” Simms, a role he later reprised in the short-lived Criminal Minds spin-off Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.
Simms was a former convict who had spent six years, three months, and four days in California’s San Quentin prison for the murder of a child molester. It was unclear whether he had previously served time in other prisons. He got his nickname, “Prophet,” while in prison, though it is unknown how or why he got it. Little else is known about him, except that he intended to atone for past sins with his street-smart edge and Zen-like ways.
During the investigation of a series of murders in San Francisco, Simms is paired with Rossi. They go to San Quentin to talk to Nelson G., an old friend of Simms “from back in the dark days,” and give him the profile in the hopes that the inmate can give them the identity, or at least some clue about the unsub. In the end, it was Nelson’s information that led both teams to zero in on the unsub’s name.
