At the age of 15, he auditioned for the Canadian television series ‘Leo and Me,’ produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and was cast. For the next three years, he continued to perform in local theatre and sitcoms, as well as in American film shoots in Canada. He moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18 and dabbled in small roles before landing his big break as Alex P.Keaton in NBC’s popular TV series “Family Ties” (1982-1989). Throughout his seven-year run on the show, he remained a popular name, earning three Emmys and one Golden Globe. Around this time, he went by the stage name “Michael J. Fox.”
He made a name for himself on the big screen as well, and was widely praised for his performance as Marty McFly in Robert Zemeckis’ film ‘Back to the Future’ (1985). It was a huge success, prompting the production of sequels in 1989 and 1990. With his subsequent roles in films such as ‘Teen Wolf’ (1985), the rock-oriented ‘Light of Day’ (1987), and the comedy ‘The Secret of My Success,’ Fox went on to become a teen icon (1987). He provided voiceovers for films such as ‘Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey and its sequel ‘Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco,’ ‘Stuart Little,’ and ‘Atlantis: The Lost Empire.’ Fox has appeared as a guest star in several TV shows, including ‘Scrubs’ (2004), ‘Boston Legal’ (2006), ‘Rescue Me (2009), and ‘The Good Wife’ (2002), earning him numerous Emmy nominations and wins.
