From 1998 to 2000, Ohlman worked as a weekday evening co-anchor for NBC affiliate KULR-TV in Billings, Montana. He later became an anchor and reporter for WTVJ-TV, an NBC-owned television station in Miami, Florida. Ohlman returned to ABC’s west coast flagship, KABC-TV in Los Angeles, as a co-anchor. Ohlman left KABC-TV in April 2009. Ohlman joined KTLA in September 2009 as the station’s new anchor alongside Victoria Recao, taking over the KTLA News at 6 and 6:30 a.m. and the station’s signature broadcast, the KTLA News at 10 a.m. Emmett Farr, who had taken over as main anchor after Hal Fishman died, was transferred to the KTLA Morning News, making room for Ohlman.

Ohlman has anchored extensive live coverage of several major stories in Southern California in recent years. In July 2008, he was also in the anchor chair when the magnitude 5.5 Chino earthquake struck. Ohlman traveled to Vietnam in 2005 to follow two Los Angeles residents who were among several Vietnamese-American adoptees who were returning to their homeland for the first time since the fall of Saigon in 1975. Ohlman received an Emmy nomination for his three-part series on the emotional homecoming.[Citation required] During the “Beltway Snipers” killing spree in October 2002, he also reported live from the scene outside Washington, D.C. for several weeks.
