Devious Maids
She plays Odessa Burakov in the film Devious Maids. Her hardline techniques for supervising the household of famed musician Alejandro Rubio are more akin to a gulag than a Beverly Hills mansion. Nonetheless, she cared profoundly about her employer and wanted to protect him from hazardous outside influences, such as his new maid Carmen Luna, whose intentions she initially questioned. She and Carmen, on the other hand, forged an odd relationship after discovering they had more in common than they realized, and they mourned Alejandro’s death together.
Carmen is introduced as a maid employed by the dominating housekeeper, Odessa Burakov. Alejandro Rubio, the owner of the house Carmen works in, returns from his tour, and Carmen expects to become friends with him because he is a well-known music producer; however, Odessa does not allow Carmen to speak with him. Later, Carmen attempts to bring Alejandro orange juice but is unable to do so because to Odessa, and the maid complains to Sam, another employee of Alejandro, who admits that he hired Carmen because he had a crush on her. Odessa subsequently confronts Carmen after discovering some of the maid’s songs on her boss’ iPod and recognizing her desire to be “discovered” by Alejandro.
Carmen goes to Sam that night and has him destroy the elevator so that the next morning, Odessa is unable to use it to take Alejandro’s breakfast tray, into which Carmen inserts a copy of her CD. She tries to lift the tray herself, using Odessa’s leg as an excuse, but Odessa refuses, bringing the tray to Alejandro herself and fiercely taking the CD. As she chases Carmen down the stairs, Odessa trips and falls, her prosthetic limb disconnecting from her body and landing independently. When Odessa is in the hospital, Carmen sings in front of Alejandro, who complements her singing.
