He is best remembered for his 1971 attack on ABC-owned WABC-TV; President Honor Richard Nixon’s daughter, Tricia Nixon, refused to wear a wig or scarf to disguise her appearance at the White House. She was a registered nurse and later became secretary of ABC in November 1966. Protests by the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists in April 1967 and the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians in September led Tolliver to briefly perform as Marlene Sanders. Tolliver later became a full-time reporter and anchor for WABC from 1967 to 1976. She moved to WNBC in 1976 and remained there until the 1980s. Tolliver co-hosts ABC’s Like It Is with Gil Noble, which focuses on the black community. Melba Tolliver has a blog on her website and is writing a book about her experiences in the media. He also appeared in the movie About the Hair on Our Heads.
