She was born to Barry Buttle. She attended St Margaret’s Anglican Girls’ School in Ascot, Queensland, as a boarder. She is one of 20 students that have been named Notable Alumnae. She graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Secondary Education (Drama) in 2003 and worked as a teacher at Calamvale Community College before going to Perth in 2004 to pursue a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing at Curtin University. Buttle began stand-up comedy as an open mic performer in Perth before returning to Queensland and representing the state in the Raw National Comedy Finals in Melbourne in 2008.

Buttle has co-produced the podcasts The Minutes and You’re Welcome with Patience Hodgson of the indie pop rock band The Grates since 2011. Both podcasts debuted at number two on the iTunes Podcasts chart in Australia.

In 2011, she debuted a weekly section on Triple J’s breakfast program called Message in a Buttle with Tom Ballard and Alex Dyson, which was followed by Buttle Theatre and lastly Mels Strongly Worded Letters, which ended at the end of 2012. She has also been on Triple J’s Hack and Drive shows on a regular basis.
Buttle is a regular on 612 ABC Brisbane, and she appeared on Afternoons with Richard Fidler with Katrina Davidson in 2011. During the summer of 2010, she filled in on Nova 106.9 Breakfast for Meshel, Tim, and Marty. Buttle co-hosted Nova’s national Saturday Session with Dave Thornton in 2011, and in June 2013, she stood in for Hughesy & Kate on Nova Melbourne Breakfast with Tommy Little. Buttle will begin hosting Weekend Afternoons on ABC Local Radio in August 2020.

Buttle made her Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Brisbane Comedy Festival debuts in 2010 with her act “Sista Got Flow,” for which she was voted Best Newcomer. She returned to the festival circuit in 2011 with her second act, “Buttle & Buttle.” She has traveled widely as a support act for comedian Josh Thomas’s Barry Award-nominated show “Surprise.”
She received Best Comedy for her performance of “Stop It, You Are!” at the Sydney Fringe Festival in 2012. Buttle returned to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with her play “How Embarrassment” after a one-year absence teaching pupils with special needs at Everton Park State High School, which was highly received by reviewers and garnered her the Directors Choice Award.
“How Embarrassment” also had its debut at the Brisbane Comedy Festival and was nominated for Best Local Act at the 2013 Sydney Comedy Festival. Stand-up comedy in the Sydney Opera House, Homebake Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Harvest Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, and Up Front Gala are among the other famous live performances. Buttle opened for Aziz Ansari, a well-known American comedian and actor, on his “Buried Alive” tour at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in late 2012.
