Mekhi Phifer is an American actor well known for his roles on NBC’s long-running medical drama ER from 2002 to 2008, and in the 2002 feature picture 8 Mile with rapper Eminem. He was a recurrent cast member on the Showtime show House of Lies and played CIA officer Rex Matheson in Torchwood: Miracle Day. Phifer is well renowned for his role in Brandy and Monica’s music video for “The Boy Is Mine”.

HHe portrays Markus Knox on Apple TV+’s Truth Be Told on Apple TV+’s Truth Be Told. Journalist Poppy Parnell of Oakland relaunches her hit true crime podcast and takes up the 1999 murder case of Stanford professor Chuck Buhrman in light of fresh information that points to Warren Cave’s erroneous conviction. At the behest of his wife Micah, an equally controversial wellness guru whose connection with Poppy clouds her judgment, Poppy looks into the murder of a photographer/filmmaker. Poppy collaborates with a high school principal to look into the instances of other young black girls who vanish in Oakland but whose stories aren’t covered by the media. A mayoral contender, meantime, capitalizes on the disappearance of a white child to further his cause.

Torchwood
Phifer played Rex Matheson in Torchwood: Miracle Day. Aside from his job at the DWU, he starred on ER alongside Alex Kingston. He also played FBI Agent Benjamin Reynolds (as opposed to his CIA position) on the American television series Lie to Me.
Rex Matheson was a Torchwood team member who also worked for the CIA. Rex was saved from death by the Miracle, so he extradited Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper to explore the phenomena. He was forced to join them and Esther Drummond on the run, eventually clearing his name and helping stop the Miracle at the expense of Esther’s life. Rex discovered that he had become immortal after feeding the Blessing Jack’s transfused blood and went on to become the CIA’s Deputy Director, working to clean up after the Miracle and track down the Three Families.
Matheson was a dedicated and serious man with a no-nonsense approach and a genuine sensitivity. He preferred CIA professionalism to Torchwood’s chaotic operations and cherished the standards he was taught to uphold. Matheson had a passive-aggressive relationship with Gwen Cooper, although he finally became friends with both Jack Harkness and Cooper. He was protective, keeping a careful eye on secret operations and putting an end to breaches if required. Matheson originally regarded Esther Drummond harshly, as she was unfamiliar with clandestine activities. But he softened toward her, showing her compassion and understanding. Although Matheson is a skilled CIA operative and is trained to kill if necessary, he uses lethal force when under stress. Under the false notion that he would shoot Cooper, he shot a professional assassin in the throat, preventing Cooper from obtaining information about The Three Families.
