She competed in the Miss Indiana USA 2013 pageant in October of that year and placed in the semi-finals. Mekayla obtained a position as production director and afternoon DJ at Froggy 102.7 WLEG in Goshen, Indiana in 2012, until the station’s format changed in 2013. Diehl won Miss Indiana USA 2014 in October 2013, qualifying her for the Miss USA 2014 pageant the following year, where she finished in the top twenty.
She is the first Native American to compete in the Miss USA competition, representing Indiana.
