Maysoon Zayid is an American actress and comedian. She is of Palestinian ancestry and was one of the first Muslim women comedians in America. Zayid began her acting career by spending two years on the iconic serial opera As the World Turns, as well as having guest appearances on Law & Order, NBC Nightly News, and ABC’s 20/20.

Zayed began her acting career with a two-year stint on the comedy series “As the World Turns” and guest-starred on “Law & Order”, NBC Nightly News and ABC’s 20/20. Early in her acting career, she realized that her disability and race were constantly limiting her success. Zayed later turned to acting and began performing at New York City’s top clubs, including Caroline’s, Gotham and Stand Up NY, where she addressed important issues such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In 2003, she participated in the New York Arab American Comedy Festival with singer Dean Obeidallah. The annual New York City event recognizes the work of Arab-American comics, actors, playwrights and filmmakers. In 2006, Zayed hosted her one-woman show LAW, created and directed by Kathy Najimy, at the Comedy Central Stage in Los Angeles. In 2008, Lowe’s script was selected by the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. Production began on the film in the fall of 2009, with Zayid directing.
Zayed appeared in the 2008 Adam Sandler film You’re Not Enough for the Zohan. He frequently tours alone or as a special guest on the Axis of Evil Comedy Tour. He also appeared on the radio show Fann Majnoon (Arabic: ÙÙ ÙØØÙÙÙ) (Mad Art) with Obeidallah. In 2013, Zayed appeared in the documentary “The Muslims Are Coming!” “, The film, about a group of American Muslim stand-up comedians who travel the United States to combat Islamophobia, also stars Janeane Celebrities such as Jon Stewart, David Cross, Janeane Garofalo, and Rachel Maddow. She was a panelist on the Melissa Harris-Perry Show episode on May 30, 2013. She also spoke at the TED Annual Conference, and her TED talk has been viewed nearly 1 billion times.
In June 2016, it was announced that Zayed would be making a film about his life with Lindsey Beer. Zayed has repeatedly said that he would like to appear on the ABC holiday drama General Hospital, and made his on-screen debut in June 2019, playing the role that featured Zahra Amir’s performance. Zayed spends three months each year painting murals for disabled and orphans in refugee camps in the Palestinian Territories. He helps children use art to prevent injuries and bridge the gap between children and non-disabled children. Eighty percent of the camp’s income comes from his acting career.
