Maya Erskine is an American actor, singer, and writer who recognized for her roles in Man Seeking Woman, in Betas, and in Blue Eye Samurai. From 2019 to 2021, she co-created, co-wrote, and co-executive produced Hulu’s original TV comedy series PEN15 with Anna Konkle. The series gained critical acclaim and was nominated for four Primetime Emmys. In 2024, she began her role as Jane Smith in the Prime Video series Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Erskine was born in Los Angeles as the daughter of Mutsuko Nigatawa and jazz musician Peter Erskine. Her mother is Japanese and comes from Tokyo. Her mother also plays her character’s mother in PEN15. Erskine attended Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences before graduating from Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She then attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Erskine began studying musical theater but then transferred to the school’s Experimental Theater Wing.

In September 2019, she revealed her romance with actor Michael Angarano. On November 2, 2020, the pair announced that they were engaged and expecting a child. Their son was born in 2021. Blue Eye Samurai

She plays Mizu in the Netflix series Blue Eye Samurai. Mizu, the main protagonist of the Netflix series Blue Eye Samurai, is voiced by Maya Erskine. The titular blue-eyed samurai is a half-Japanese, half-Caucasian swordmaster who has sworn vengeance.

Mizu then devoted her entire being to her vow of revenge against her mysterious Western father. She returned to her male disguise and added orange-tinted glasses to obscure her eyes, then trained herself in different stealth and infiltration techniques such as climbing and lock-picking. She pursued leads far more efficiently and viciously than when she initially started out.
