Wright left the Daily Mirror in 2000 to pursue a career in television and to create the website mykindaplace.com. He was chosen to host the daily topical discussion series The Wright Stuff on Channel 5, which premiered in September 2000. Originally, Wright co-hosted the show with panelists James O’Brien and Kate Silverton. After a few years, O’Brien and Silverton were replaced by a new panel every week, and the show began to attract celebrities to appear on the panel on a daily basis.
Wright identified John Leslie as the television host accused of raping Ulrika Jonsson live on air in 2002. Wright later admitted that he couldn’t recall saying Leslie’s name during the show. Wright began his career as a junior journalist at the Godalming-based Surrey Mail group of newspapers under the guidance of editor Peter Tribe. In the 1990s, Wright worked as an assistant for future 3AM girl Polly Graham while writing a column for the Daily Mirror and becoming a showbusiness correspondent for The Sun. Wright covered numerous celebrity stories while working for the Daily Mirror, including the 1999 wedding of Phil Collins and Orianne Cevey, which he claimed was the longest wedding he had ever attended. Wright contributed to Phil Collins in 2002: Collins’s career was profiled in the BBC television documentary A Life Less Ordinary, which was later commercially distributed.
Actor David Soul successfully sued Wright and the Daily Mirror for £20,000 in 1998 for libel after Wright referred to the play The Dead Monkey in a review as “without a doubt the worst West End show I have ever seen,” despite not having seen the play. In his article, Wright also made a number of other false claims about the play. Wright was “using the play as an excuse to attack me personally,” Soul stated.
Wright was named the lead presenter for the London region of BBC One’s Inside Out program in 2007. In 2017, he left the show, and Sean Fletcher took his place. Wright began working as a columnist for the Daily Star Sunday in September 2011, but the publication fired him in March 2012.
Wright made an appearance in the thirteenth season of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in November 2013.
