Prior to his present position, Steinmetz was the Golden State Warriors Insider on local radio station 95.7 The Game (KGMZ-FM), which is owned by Entercom. Steinmetz received a Northern California Emmy Award for on-camera talent while working for the Warriors broadcast team in 2007. From 2004 to 2007, Steinmetz participated in the Warriors’ radio and television Roundtable programs, co-hosting the radio Roundtable with Tim Roye, the team’s radio play-by-play announcer. Steinmetz was the Golden State Warriors beat reporter for the Contra Costa Times (Walnut Creek, CA) from 1996 until 2005.
While working for the Contra Costa Times, Steinmetz received the Associated Press Sports Editors’ first-place award for Best News Story of 1997 (circ. 50,000-175,000) for his coverage of the Latrell Sprewell-P.J. Carlesimo choke incident. He is also best friends with Ray Ratto, a fellow 95.7 host. In 2000, the San Francisco Peninsula Press Club awarded Steinmetz for his essay on Joe DiMaggio (Joe’s Grace Lifted Him Above Game). Steinmetz previously worked as a basketball columnist for the San Francisco Examiner.
