He stayed there for nearly two years before going to sister station KTTC in Rochester, Minnesota, to anchor morning and lunchtime newscasts. Matt was back in Siouxland in no time, anchoring the morning and noon newscasts at KTIV. Matt’s professional ability as an anchor, producer, and reporter has been acknowledged on several occasions by the Iowa Broadcast News Association and the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association over the last 24 years. In April of 2018, Matt earned the IBNA’s highest distinction, the Jack Shelley Award. The award is named for the former News Director of WHO-TV and Professor Emeritus of Journalism at Iowa State University, and it recognizes a nominee’s “exceptional contribution to the cause of professional broadcast journalism in Iowa.”
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences honored Matt’s writing, producing, and anchoring abilities with Emmy awards in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. In June 2012, Matt was one of a small handful of journalists invited to the White House for an exclusive interview with President Barack Obama. KTIV commenced transmitting on October 10, 1954. The station has always been an NBC affiliate, but it shared ABC programming with KVTV/KCAU-TV until September 2, 1967. KTIV had a brief relationship with the NTA Film Network in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
KTIV is an NBC station in the Sioux City, Iowa, market. The station, as well as the Sioux City Journal and KSCJ radio, were formerly owned by the Perkins Brothers Company. In June 2011, KTIV’s newscasts began broadcasting in high definition. On February 1, 2021, Gray Television announced the purchase of Quincy Media for $925 million. Because AFLAC and Raycom Media amalgamated in 1997, KTIV would be reunited with several of its former AFLAC sibling stations.
