As a child, it made him feel as if he had already suffered a whole lifetime of injuries before becoming a conscious human being. When he was a toddler, he was gored in the face by the dog named Pitch Black. Throughout primary school, he only talked about his scar. People were constantly asking him how he got his scars, what happened, and if they would be there for the rest of his life. He pondered why an incident he couldn’t recall made up such a major part of his identity to his friends and professors.

In the program, Andrew doesn’t seem to see his terrible character traits and asks Mia whether he is a nice person, to which she responds, “I think deep down you’re a good guy, but I don’t think that matters much if on the surface you’re a total jerk.” As season one progresses, he strives to become a better person.
