She has been on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Comedy Central’s The Half Hour and Premium Blend, NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Kelly began performing stand-up comedy at the Laugh Factory in her hometown of Los Angeles when she was 25 years old. Her material and confidence grew gradually over a five-year span.
Kelly first appeared on comedy stages in Austin, Texas, during HBO’s Aspen Comedy Festival tryouts in the fall of 1999, and then won Capital City Comedy Club’s annual “Funniest Person in Austin” contest in April 2000. Kelly won Comedy Central’s 2002 Laugh Riots national comedy competition and was a New Face at the Just for Laughs comedy festival that same year.

She is remarkably forgiving of Chip’s problems and continues to be a nice, helpful, and kind friend to him, despite the fact that he is nasty, ungrateful, ignores her compassion, and is frequently emotionally abusive to her.When he behaves in this manner toward her, she usually responds by acting perplexed and/or upset, but she never becomes upset or defends herself in front of him, nor does she leave him.
She gets along well with Christine, though a little awkwardly. Martha gets uneasy when Christine keeps hinting to her and other people in the area that she and Chip have love feelings for one another. She is really attached to her niece and nephew. She’s been divorced.
