From 1965 through 1970, Berger worked as a foreign correspondent for Newsday on Long Island. She then moved on to The Washington Post, where she had a minor role in the Watergate scandal. Berger claimed that Richard Nixon White House aide Ken Clawson boasted to her about writing the Canuck Letter, a phony letter to the editor of the Manchester Union Leader that helped destroy Senator Edmund Muskie’s campaign. She also covered the Cold War armaments competition as well as China. She went on to write for The New York Times. Berger was honored in 2018 at The New Jewish Home’s Eight Over Eighty Gala. Berger left The Washington Post to go for NBC News, where she did on-camera reporting at the 1976 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. She presented the public television news program The Advocates and was a nightly news anchor on New York’s public television station WNET. Berger published This is a Soul: The Mission of Rick Hodes in 2010, detailing Dr. Rick Hodes’ trek into Africa to help sick children.
