Brennan began her career at CNBC in 2002 in the business news industry. She was a producer of the late financial journalist Louis Rukeyser’s show. Her work involved researching and writing for the show as well as booking guests. She also worked on the Street Signs with Ron Insana business program as a producer.
Later on, Brennan became a correspondent covering news on financial crisis. Most notably the reporting on Circuit City’s liquidation in 2009.

On 1st October 2024, Brennan moderated the 2024 United States vice presidential debate alongside CBS Evening News’ anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell. The VP debate was held at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City.
