Smith previously hosted “First Look” on MSNBC and “Early Today” on NBC before joining HLN. Smith began working for MSNBC in January 2010. Since January 2009, she has worked as a General Assignment Reporter and fill-in anchor for WNBC-News 4 New York. Since June 2007, Smith has worked as a general assignment reporter for NBC-owned station WCAU in Philadelphia. Her responsibilities were expanded in January 2008, when she was promoted to co-anchor of “NBC 10 Weekend Today” on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Prior to joining WCAU, she worked as an Associate Producer on NBC’s “Today” for two years before being promoted to Producer. When she moved to the other side of the camera in 2007, she took on a new role.

When she became an Online Correspondent for todayshow.com in 2007, her role expanded to the other side of the camera, and several of her pieces were featured on “Today.” She also worked for NBC-owned station WVIT in Hartford, Connecticut, as a Freelance General Assignment Reporter.
