Collins made her television debut in a Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode in 1999, then went on to feature onstage as Ophelia opposite Liev Schreiber in Hamlet, followed by Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. She rose to prominence in the film The Merchant of Venice as the female lead Portia, opposite Al Pacino, Joseph Fiennes, and Jeremy Irons, after a term on the show Haunted and roles in the films Down with Love, 50 First Dates, and 13 Going on 30. Collins’ audition tape for the supporting character of Jessica had so pleased director Michael Radford that when Cate Blanchett opted out as Portia (due to pregnancy), Radford advocated for Collins to take her place.
She rose to prominence in 2008 as Jason Stackhouse’s girlfriend Dawn Green in the first season of the HBO vampire series True Blood, and in 2009 as the hero’s love interest Kayla Silverfox in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, alongside Hugh Jackman.
