Turner began her career as a fashion journalist for The Observer in the late 1980s, and she later became fashion editor at the London Evening Standard in the 1990s. She was a freelance journalist in the 1990s and 2000s, writing oped copy for a variety of newspaper titles. She was chastised in the Welsh Assembly in 2006 for an article published in her Western Mail column titled “However much I love my gay friends, I don’t want them running the country.” She was accused of homophobia.
Turner’s television career began in 1993 on GMTV. Since 2002, she has been a regular panelist on Channel Five’s The Wright Stuff. She contributed to Doctor Who: Thirty Years in the TARDIS, a documentary commemorating Doctor Who’s 30th anniversary in 1993, in which she discussed the Edwardian feel of the Doctor’s costumes as well as her admiration for Jon Pertwee’s portrayal of the character.
She has appeared as a celebrity panelist on BBC2’s quiz show Going, Going, Gone, as well as presenting Looking Good, Shopping City, Housecall, Would Like To Meet, and DIY SOS. Turner now works as a diet and lifestyle advisor in London, having earned a ‘Diploma in Nutritional Therapy’ from the Institute for Optimum Nutrition.
