He was one of the initial anchors of CNN, an American cable news channel, when it debuted in the summer of 1980, and remained one of the network’s primary anchors until September 2001, adding to a nearly 40-year media career. For the majority of his time at the network, Waters co-anchored CNN Today with Natalie Allen. He also co-anchored Early Prime and hosted special editions such as Coming of Age, which focused on aging in American society. For this series, Waters interviewed renowned scientists as well as citizens of all ages about their perspectives on age.

Before joining CNN, Waters worked as a DJ and newscaster in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Tucson, San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Buffalo, and New York City. Following his time at CNN, Waters became the managing editor and anchor of NewsProNet’s “Investing in America” consumer money stories, which are shown on more than 80 television stations across the United States. Until recently, Waters served as Vice Mayor of Oro Valley, Arizona.[Citation needed] Waters recently began writing after publishing a book about San Francisco radio great Bobby Dale. The book, Have I Got a Song for You, recounted Dale’s life.
