In 1992, Vidal co-starred with Robert De Niro and Jessica Lange in the crime drama film Night and the City, directed by Irwin Winkler. She co-starred in the 1994 comedy-drama film I Like It Like That with Lauren Vélez and Rita Moreno. She had a recurring role as Carmen, a reporter, in New York Undercover from 1994 to 1995. Det. Eddie Torres, played by Michael DeLorenzo, was her sister in the series. She did some Off-Broadway work in The Commish in 1995. Vidal has also acted in films like Mighty Aphrodite (1995), The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit (1998), and Chasing Papi (2003). She starred in the 2007 psychological horror thriller Dark Mirror.
Vidal had recurrent appearances on Third Watch from 1999 to 2001 as Dr. Sarah Morales, and ER from 2001 to 2004 as firefighter Sandy Lopez. Vidal featured with Bonnie Bedelia in the Lifetime drama series The Division from 2001 to 2004, for which she received an ALMA Award nomination in the Best Actress category in 2002. She appeared in the short-lived action series Smith in 2006. In 2010, she played the First Lady of the United States in the NBC drama The Event. Vidal has also been in a number of made-for-television films, including The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1998), and Naughty.
Vidal debuted as Kara Lynch, the executive producer of the Mary Jane show, opposite Gabrielle Union in the BET drama series Being Mary Jane in 2013. The series concluded in 2017, and BET broadcast a two-hour cinematic finale in 2019. She also had a recurring role on the Fox comedy-drama series Rosewood from 2015 to 2017. Vidal has also appeared as a guest star on American Horror Story, Shameless, and Chicago P.D. Vidal was cast in the ABC romantic comedy-drama series The Baker and the Beauty in 2020 as Mari Garcia, the primary character’s mother.
