Linda Vester is an American television newscaster. She was the anchor for NBC News at Sunrise and Fox News’ DaySide with Linda Vester. Vester began her journalism career by interning for CBS News’ Paris Bureau in 1985 and the Boston Bureau in 1986-87.

Career

West began his journalism career in 1985, working in the Paris bureau of CBS News and in the Boston bureau from 1986-87. In 1987, he made his debut as a reporter at KHGI-TV in Kearney, Nebraska. Following a Fulbright scholarship to Egypt, she was hired by NBC News to train as a foreign correspondent. She started training as a researcher and producer at NBC in New York in 1989. In the early 1990s, NBC News management sent him to WFLA-TV to continue on-air training, with the stipulation that they could ask him to report to the network as needed.
NBC continued this policy during Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in the 1990s, leading to operations Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Due to West’s Arabic language skills and background in Middle Eastern affairs, NBC temporarily removed him from WFLA-TV and began broadcasting from Saudi Arabia for their own station. After the Gulf War, West returned to WFLA-TV until 1992; at which time it was transferred to NBC’s Washington affiliate WRC-TV in a merger agreement; During this time he was working weekday participating broadcasts for the network, including holidays. During this time, he addressed the White House, Pentagon and State Department, as well as the humanitarian crisis in Somalia.

In mid-1993, West was promoted to full-time correspondent on NBC’s Weekend Today. The mission includes a description of the situation during the uprising in Haiti. In early 1994, he was assigned to NBC’s London bureau to cover foreign affairs across all news networks. One of his projects is the Rwandan genocide, which led him to produce the award-winning documentary Back Home in 2005, directed by Rwandan refugee J.B. Rutagarama. In 1999, West was hired by Fox News Channel to host the afternoon news. During 9/11, he held many press conferences and conducted exclusive interviews with O.J. Simpson. In 2003, Fox News launched its first live broadcast with an audience, “Days with Linda Vester.” She remained in this position until July 2005, when she became pregnant with her second child. Then-CEO Roger Ailes agreed to terminate her contract as a stay-at-home mom. Juliet Huddy and Mike Jerrick hosted DaySide until late 2006, when they were replaced by The Living Room, directed by Martha MacCallum.

She is a trustee for the Institute of International Education, which administers the coveted Fulbright Scholarship. She is also a trustee for Summer Steps, an early-childhood education program in New York that prepares low-income preschoolers for kindergarten. Vester and Greenberg have established a psychiatry chair at Yale Medical School for the study of PTSD. They were moved to do so after Vester had PTSD during the Gulf War and Rwanda. They are strong advocates of the Warrior Scholar Project, an intellectual boot camp that assists Iraq and Afghanistan soldiers in completing their college degree following combat. They are also affiliated with the Posse Foundation, which is currently funding the college education of several Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
