LeToya Luckett is an American R&B singer and actress best known for being a founding member of Destiny’s Child, the best-selling girl group of the late 1990s. She has three US Top Ten hit singles and won two Grammy Awards. In the 2000s, she launched her solo career with her debut album, LeToya, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum by the RIAA.

Lady Love
On August 25, 2009, Luckett released her second solo studio album, Lady Love. The album, which was supposed to be released in 2008, was postponed owing to funding concerns resulting from the Capitol Records and Virgin Records merger. On August 25, 2009, the album was published as a CD and digital download in the United States and around the world. The CD included a five-track sampler, the lead song “Not Anymore,” and a music video set in the 1960s. The track “She Ain’t Got…” was the most added tune at urban radio and reached number 107 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Bryan Barber directed the song video, which aired on Yahoo song on June 30, 2009.
The album’s second song, “Regret,” featuring rapper Ludacris, reached number eight on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video for “Regret” debuted on BET’s 106 & Park on November 11, 2009. The album’s fourth and final single, “Good To Me,” debuted on February 1, 2010, but failed to chart.
Slim Thug
Luckett, a Destiny’s Child member, released her debut album in July 2006, and it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. Jermaine Dupri, Scott Storch, Teddy Bishop, and B. Cox produced the hip-hop-inspired R&B album, which included Slim Thug, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, and Bun B as musical guests. In July 2006, Luckett released her second single, “She Don’t,” which featured Slim Thug and peaked at number 17 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart. In November 2006, “Obvious” was chosen as the third single, however due to the merger of Capitol Records and Virgin Records, all promotional funds were frozen, hence the song was never officially released.
Luckett was awarded “One of the Best New Artists of 2006” by AOL Music and ranked second in Rap-Up magazine’s “Top 5 Breakthrough Artists of 2006.” She took part in the 2006 “Pantene Total You” Tour, the “Cingular Live in Concert” series, and was invited by Mary J. Blige to join her summer tour, The Breakthrough Experience Tour. In July 2006, she announced her upcoming album, Lady Love, which would feature rappers such as Slim Thug, Killa Kyleon, and Bun B.
Beyonce
She joined the children’s chorus and began appearing in plays at her primary school. One day, she walked to her desk in class and discovered a female sitting there. Luckett begged her teacher to remove Beyoncé Knowles from her allotted seat. They later became friends, and Luckett was invited to join Beyoncé’s singing group Girl’s Tyme, later renamed Destiny’s Child.
Luckett formed Destiny’s Child, an R&B group based in Houston, with Beyoncé Knowles, LaTavia Roberson, and Kelly Rowland in 1993. The group’s roles included Knowles as lead vocalist, Rowland as second-lead vocalist, and Roberson and Luckett as background vocalists, with Roberson as alto (and spokesperson) adding low notes and Luckett as soprano adding high notes to the group’s harmony, as well as occasional leads. After being signed and then dropped by Elektra Records in 1995, the group began working with D’wayne Wiggins before signing with Columbia Records in 1997, but not before meeting with group manager Mathew Knowles, Beyoncé’s father.

Thom Bell and Linda Epstein were given credit as songwriters since the sample was used. The protagonist of “Torn” is lyrically “torn” between remaining with her boyfriend and leaving him.
“Torn” was the lead single from the album, released in March 2006. It peaked at number two on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list and reached the top twenty on the Rhythmic Top 40 and Adult R&B Songs charts.
