Lenny Clarke, an American comedian and actor, was born on September 16, 1953. He is most recognized for his heavy Boston accent and his role as Uncle Teddy in the television series Rescue Me. He was the most well-known “saloon comic” in Boston during the 1980s, when the city’s comedy scene was at its peak. When Standup Stood Out (2006), a DVD release, covers Clarke’s early career and ties with other well-known Boston comics, including his close friends Steven Wright and Denis Leary. Clarke and Boston comedy writer Martin Olson collaborated on the local television show Lenny Clarke’s Late Show, which starred Wright and Leary, in 1980. Clarke and Olson were roommates, and their apartment, nicknamed “The Barracks” by comedians, was a notorious “crash pad” for performers visiting Boston, according to the film. Clarke featured in his own short-lived network sitcom, Lenny (1990), as well as TV shows like Contest Searchlight.

Clarke and Leary appeared on television during a Red Sox game in 2006, and after learning that Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis is Jewish, they criticized Mel Gibson’s anti-Semitic remarks. Clarke portrayed Ron Abbot in the Fox comedy series The Winner, which aired briefly in 2007. Due to low ratings, the show was cancelled on May 16, 2007, after six episodes. Clarke also makes infrequent appearances on Boston’s WEEI radio broadcasts.[Citation needed] He announced on this broadcast that he would be a regular on Fox Sitcom Brothers in 2009 as the racist neighbor married to a black woman.
