After graduating from college, she worked as a Teach For America teacher for two years at T. L. Weston High School in Greenville, Mississippi, where she taught French. Following her time spent teaching French, Parham started doing comedic roles with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. She starred in She Tried to be Normal, a one-woman show, and The Adventures of Lock & Kay, a two-person performance, during this period. Parham started filming a supporting part in the comedy Accidentally on Purpose in the fall of 2009. The NBC comedy Best Friends Forever, which aired for one season in 2012, was developed and starred in by Parham and regular collaborator Jessica St. Clair. Playing House, their second sitcom, debuted on USA on April 29, 2014, and ran for three seasons.

In order to create a new Earwolf podcast called WOMP It Up!, Parham and St. Clair spun off their Comedy Bang! Bang! characters Wompler and Listler in 2015. St. Clair played host Marissa Wompler, while Parham co-hosted as Marissa’s teacher Charlotte Listler. Episodes featuring Jason Mantzoukas as Marissa’s ex-boyfriend Eric “Gutterballs” Gutterman and Brian Huskey as Marissa’s stepdad “Seth” are regularly featured on the podcast.
