Leighann Lord is an American comedian, writer, and actress. She does stand-up comedy. In addition to performing for troops in the Middle East, she was named one of the 35 Most Hilarious Comedians of Diversity, a national finalist in the American Black Film Festival-HBO Comedy Wings Competition, and the recipient of the American Humanist Association’s Humanist Arts Award.

Leighann Lord was born in South Jamaica, Queens, and reared by her West Indian parents. She attended Baruch College at the City University of New York, where she studied journalism, creative writing, and theater, with a focus on show business; in 1989, she graduated with a BA in journalism and creative writing.
Leighann Career
After college, Lorde worked in the communications department of Chemical Bank for five years, but continued her interest in business and eventually began performing in concert. She performed stand-up on Lifetime’s “Girls Night Out”, HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam”, and Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend”, and won the “Funny Housewife Contest” on ABC’s “The View”. She has cited George Carlin, Martha Warfield, Carol Burnett, and Burtis Berry as influences on the series. In addition to her own work, Lorde writes for The Chris Rock Show and writes for the comedy series The Urban Erma. In 2014, she published The God Joke Dictionary: Alternative Definitions of Words You’ve Never Heard But Remember. In February 2015, Lord appeared on Star Talk Radio’s “From Warp Drive to Cloaking Device: Star Trek Sunday Cosmic Inquiries” with Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Lorde is affiliated with the African American Humanist Organization, which ran an advertisement in 2012 featuring photographs of Lorde and other current activists and organizations, as well as billboards for prominent African-American humanist Zoro for La Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, and Frederick Douglass. Lord moderated CSICon, a non-religious conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2019.
