Larry Miller made his screen debut in an episode of the musical TV show ‘Fame’ in 1982. He took on the role of The Emcee. Miller appeared in the 1990 film ‘Pretty Woman’ as a Beverley Hills store manager who sucks up to Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. This was his first major film role. He went on to play similar characters, remarking once that his job was to play “stuck up to suck up characters.” Miller rose to prominence as a character artist and comedian in the mid-1990s. In 1995, he was a regular on the television comedy series ‘The Pursuit of Happiness,’ playing Larry Rutledge.
In many of his mockumentaries, Miller collaborated with renowned character actor Christopher Guest. The first was ‘Waiting for Guffman,’ which aired in 1996 and starred Miller as Mayor Glenn Welsch. Miller portrayed a single father with two teenage daughters in the 1999 romantic comedy ’10 Things I Hate About You.’ His character is regarded as one of the most memorable in the film. Miller and ‘Seinfeld’ comedian Jerry Seinfeld have been lifelong friends. Miller was considered for the role of George Costanza in the sitcom, but the role was eventually given to Jason Alexander. He does, however, appear on the show, first as the devious doorman in the episode ‘The Doorman’ in 1995.
Miller has also performed as a voice actor. In the television series ‘The Penguins of Madagascar,’ he provided the voice of Clemson. Miller has written for television shows such as ‘Just Words,’ ‘Pros & Cons,’ and ‘Uncommon Sense’ (2005). He has also written for ‘The Huffington Post and ‘The Weekly Standard.’
