Friday Night Lights

The novel and movie of the same name by Buzz Bissinger served as inspiration for the series. While on Christmas vacation with his family in 2005, Chandler found out he had been cast as Eric Taylor, the high school football coach.

In 2006, the NBC pilot for the show debuted. Even though the show received high praise from critics, it was almost cancelled every year. First-run episodes of the show aired on The 101 Network, a satellite channel owned by DirecTV, beginning with the third season in 2008. These episodes were later rebroadcast on NBC. 2011 saw the conclusion of the last season.

Chandler indicated that he didn’t want to play Coach Taylor; neither did Berg. Chandler’s performance in Friday Night Lights’ last season earned him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Dramatic Series.
