Brown made her acting debut in the national tour of the hit Broadway musical Rent, as Mimi. She has appeared on Broadway in several productions, including Hair, Leap of Faith, and Big Fish, where she played Josephine Bloom. Brown’s regional productions outside of Broadway include Little Shop of Horrors, High School Musical, and Calvin Berger. She also performed in the Off-Broadway production Falling for Eve. In 2014, she played Diana Ross in the Broadway production of Motown: The Musical. On December 10, 2019, she made her Broadway debut as Eliza Hamilton in the hit musical Hamilton. In 2022, she plays Gussie Carnegie in the New York Theatre Workshop version of Merrily We Roll Along.
Brown made her television debut in the series Castle in 2011, as Sasha in the episode “Pretty Dead”. In 2016, Brown appeared in the episode “AbraCadaver” of Hulu’s Original TV series Deadbeat. She also appeared as a guest in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit from season 17. Brown provided the voice of Netossa in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Brown appeared in the Sydney to the Max episode “How the Syd Stole Christmas” in 2019, playing Sydney Reynolds’ late mother Dr. Alisha Reynolds in a four-year flashback. Brown began a recurring role opposite Queen Latifah on the CBS series The Equalizer from 2020 to 2022. Brown returns in season two of Power Book III: Raising Kanan.
