Murthy joined Channel 4 News in 1998 and is the channel’s second longest-serving presenter after Jon Snow. Between 2003 and 2009, he was also the main presenter of Channel 4 News at Noon. In 2010 and 2014, he was nominated for News Presenter of the Year by the Royal Television Society Journalism Awards.

He oversaw Channel 4’s coverage of the 2012 Paralympics, the 2014 Winter Paralympics, and the reburial of Richard III. He hosted The TV Show as well as The Operation: Surgery Live. Murthy’s career began in 1988 with the DEF II discussion show Open to Question and the youth current-affairs show Reportage on the BBC. While at Oxford, he hosted BBC2’s Asian current-affairs shows East and Network East. From 1991 to 1994, he hosted and reported for the children’s news program Newsround. For three years, he worked as a producer and reporter for Newsnight, and in 1997, he was one of the first presenters on BBC News 24. In 1998, he joined Channel 4 News.
