The stock market meltdown put Fresh Horizons founder Aldridge in financial jeopardy and forced him to purchase a dilapidated farm for his kids. Investment banker Peter Gardner provided a rescue, but Aldridge refused to give up the property. Blair Carlson, Gardner’s mistress, was abducted by him, and he held her captive in Harlem. Carlson managed to get away, but Silvio Mangiafico’s truck murdered him. After being detained, Aldridge and Carlos were put on trial. While Carlos testified against Aldridge, the defense pointed the finger at Gardner. Aldridge painted Gardner as the cause of the catastrophe and took full responsibility for it. All the jurors found Aldridge not guilty, with the exception of Carlos, who left the courtroom early.
