Kellie Sloane Career
At the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Sloane began her career. In 1997, Sloane started working as a lifestyle series reporter for Money and A Current Affair on the Nine Network. She left A Current Affair in 2005 when the show was being revamped to combat a decline in ratings against rival Today Tonight on the Seven Network.
Sloane was then elevated to full-time news moderator at the Nine Organization, updating the Public Nine Early News close by Sarah Murdoch, and Nightline. She took over for Mike Munro as the permanent host of National Nine News Afternoon Edition in 2006.
In April 2007, Sloane moved to co-facilitating Today working with Karl Stefanovic as the substitute swap co-have for Jessica Rowe, who was on maternity leave at that point, but Rowe reported that she was leaving the Nine Organization on 6 May 2007.
On 10 May 2007, in perhaps of the most noteworthy occurrence on Today, Sloane imploded in real time. During a cooking segment with celebrity chef Tobie Puttock, best known for his work with Jamie Oliver, the collapse occurred at 8:10 a.m. After the incident, it was said that she was okay, and Sloane returned to the presenters’ desk about 15 minutes later, allegedly blaming her 3 a.m. wake-up call for the “dizzy spell.” Later, thanks to YouTube, the slow-motion video of Sloane collapsing went viral on social media. On an episode of ABC TV’s The Chaser’s War on Everything, the incident was mocked.
In October 2009, the Nine Organization declared that Sloane would be moved to the late-night news program Nightline, with Wendy Kingston moving to introduce Nine’s Morning News Hour. She also served as a substitute host for Nine News in Sydney.
Nine announced in July 2010 that Nightline would be eliminated immediately and that on-duty reporters would continue to provide late-breaking news updates in its place. Sloane left the Nine Organization following 13 years at the Organization.
