Kathy Kinney is an actress and comedian from the United States who first gained notoriety in 1989 as Prudence Godard on the CBS sitcom Newhart. Later, she became well-known for playing Mimi Bobeck on the ABC sitcom The Drew Carey Show. Her filmography includes the following: This Boy’s Life, Stanley & Iris, Scrooged, Three Fugitives, Parting Glances, Arachnophobia, and Picking Up the Pieces.

Kinney Childhood, Family – Education
Kinney is the daughter of Irish American parents Harold Kinney, an automobile dealer, and Marian Kinney. At the age of fifteen, her father passed away. She finished a six-month Back Country season in Kings Canyon and exited the program with numerous scholarships worth thousands of dollars. She studied in the 1970s at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, officially earning her degree in 2016.

In the first season episode of Dirty Dexy Money, Kinney portrayed Franny Lewis. The clerk that assisted Dex in his Ginger Lloyd investigation is Franny Lewis. Initially, Dex visited Franny to obtain documents related to Ginger’s company. She discovered that Enrique Bedoya had threatened Ginger through her. Later, in an attempt to use the complaints as leverage to persuade Ginger to retract her complaints against Dex, Dex went back to Franny and lodged a number of grievances against her. She is employed by the Department of Sexually Oriented Business in Multnomah County.

One of the primary characters on The Drew Carey Show is Kinney, who portrays Mimi Bobeck, Drew’s greatest enemy at home and at work. In the series, Mimi is the secretary and assistant to Mr. Bell. She is an overweight woman with erratic self-esteem. She is Drew’s worst enemy and has made it her mission to ruin his life after being turned down for a job because of her appearance. Among Mimi’s practical jokes are attaching a pornographic magazine to Drew’s hand, stuffing trash all over his desk, and sending him to China in a state of unconsciousness. She is infamous for referring to him as “Doughboy” and “Pig.” Mimi’s past involves the music industry; she was married to Eddie Money and worked as a roadie for Foghat.
Additionally, she has been known to share a bed with Peter Frampton and Joe Walsh, with Frampton continuing to hold a passion for her. Mimi later on becomes into more of a friend to Drew, dating Steve (John Carroll Lynch) and raising Gus as a good, nonconformist mother. It was revealed early on in the series that Mimi was descended from Poland and had inherited the title of Duchess of Kraków following the passing of her aunt. But after protests from the Polish community, the show deleted all reference to Mimi’s Polish ancestry.
