Adams worked for WMDT-TV in Salisbury, Maryland, after starting her career at KOAM-TV in Pittsburg/Joplin. She worked as an anchor and later as the news director at Charlotte, North Carolina’s WPCQ-TV before coming to WPRI. Arriving in Providence in March 1989, she began anchoring the 6 and 11 p.m. reports. In 2002, she expanded her responsibilities to include the 5 p.m. program. With 21 years of service at WPRI-TV, Adams has worked as a female newscaster in Providence for the second longest, behind Patrice Wood of WJAR, who has 40 years. On Thursday, December 30, 2010, WPRI-TV aired Karan Adams’ last show.
Adams had a solid reputation for supporting and raising money for a wide range of regional nonprofits, including The DaVinci Center and AIDS Care Rhode Island. Additionally, Adams was active in a number of community organizations, such as Community Preparatory School and the Providence Preservation Society. Adams, who enjoys playing golf a lot, is married to Ed Mauro and splits his year between Providence and North Carolina.
