Career
Klausner was 11 years old when she attended Camp Scatico in 1989, and she was one of the campers picked at random to appear in the background of a Camp MTV special piece. As an adult, Klausner created, wrote, and co-starred in the Hulu sitcom Difficult People, which also featured comedian Billy Eichner. Amy Poehler produced the series, which premiered on August 5, 2015. Season 2 premiered on July 12, 2016, and season 3 premiered on August 8, 2017. On November 14, 2017, the streaming service announced the cancellation of Difficult People. All 28 episodes are still available on the streaming service.
Klausner is the head writer and co-executive producer of the web comedy Billy on the Street, which also stars Eichner and has previously aired on Funny or Die, Fuse, and TruTV. It will now launch on Lyft’s website and YouTube. Klausner has also written for television shows including Mulaney, Best Week Ever, The Big Gay Sketch Show, The Jack and Triumph Show, Ugly Americans, and Saturday Night Live, as well as pop culture websites like The Awl and Vulture. Klausner began writing for Amazon Prime Video’s reboot of the sketch comedy show Kids in the Hall in March 2020. She is also a writer for the Apple TV+ musical comedy series Schmigadoon!, starring Cecily Strong. In 2021, she played a gargoyle in a season three episode of What We Do in the Shadows, alongside “Difficult People” co-star Cole Escola. Klausner and actor Sue Galloway performed as a comedy team in the 2010 film “Free to Be (You and Me)”. They published a parody song titled “Boys and Girls Are Different (In the Pants).” Later that year, Klausner published his song “Center of Attention.” Klausner published the song “Silence” in 2023, which is a parody of Kate Bush’s music spoken from the perspective of Clarice in the film The Silence of the Lambs.
Books
Klausner’s first book, I Don’t Care About Your Band, was published in February 2010 by Gotham/Penguin Books. Gary Sanchez Productions, owned by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, optioned the novel for HBO in July of 2010. Lizzy Caplan was tapped to star and co-produce. Klausner’s debut novel for young adults, Art Girls Are Easy, was published in 2013.
