In 1985, he joined the BBC as a staff reporter for BBC Radio Leicester, and in 1988, he became a TV presenter for Midlands Today. In January 1989, he returned to Radio Leicester as News Editor. He came to Manchester in 1991 to work for Radio Five, a newly founded station, where he hosted the nightly magazine show Five Aside. He started out as a newsreader and reporter for Five Live in 1994 but rapidly rose through the ranks to become a regular presenter on Weekend Breakfast before co-hosting Five Live Breakfast with Victoria Derbyshire. From July 2003 to July 2004, he worked on the mid-morning show before leaving to work as a BBC News relief presenter. On multiple occasions, he has hosted the BBC Radio 4 obituary program Last Word.
He anchored the Sunday current affairs show Worricker, which included the 5 Live Report, from September 2002 to September 2007. In September 2007, Worricker chose to take a six-month hiatus from both 5 Live and BBC News to travel around the world. On most Saturday and Sunday mornings, he may be heard on the BBC World Service presenting Weekend. Until October 2013, he also hosted You and Yours on BBC Radio 4. Worricker studied English literature at the University of Leicester after attending Epsom College. He is the family’s only kid. He suffers from psoriatic arthritis. Since 2020, he has been defending against the COVID-19 epidemic.
