Judy Gold Better Things

She appeared as Chaya, one of Sam’s friends in the seasons 4 and 5 of the American comedy-drama television series Better Things. The series debuted on September 8, 2016. The sitcom got renewed for a fifth and final season, which will broadcast on February 28, 2022. The series ended on April 25, 2022.

The series and Adlon’s portrayal have received accolades, and she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in both 2017 and 2018. Sam and her girlfriends, Sunny, Lenny, Lala, Tressa, and Chaya, gather together for a Father’s Day brunch that serves as a detailed and bitter reminder of their divorces. Sam’s ex-husband Xander hovers over the meeting, as Sam recalls how his crazy, controlling mother sabotaged their intentions for a smooth divorce, and how she has been paying the price ever since.

Sam is upset with Sunny because she and her ex-husband Jeff are getting along as cordial ex-partners, and Sam is also her normal awful self to Lala’s ex Thomas, who points out all the ways Sam doesn’t know what she’s talking about and snidely quips on how she’s getting old, brittle, and mean. Sam and her pals eventually write “forgiveness” letters to their ex-partners, but Sam is plainly not prepared to forgive Xander. Phil takes Frankie out to dinner and delivers her both an early birthday present and some unpleasant realities about her grandfather. Max and Frankie take over mentoring Duke, leaving Sam out of the picture.
