Law & Order

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit cast Light, an Emmy Award-winning actress, as Bureau Chief and then Judge Elizabeth Donnelly. Former Bureau Chief ADA Elizabeth Cara Donnelly is a judge on Manhattan’s Superior Court in New York City. Donnelly has been practicing law for at least thirty years. She won most of her cases as an assistant district attorney, earning her a reputation for being stern. She did, however, suffer a significant setback in the prosecution of Caroline Cresswell, the wife of an abusive husband. Since it was thought that a female prosecutor would make Caroline less receptive to the jury, Donnelly had been given the case. But Cresswell ran away during a meeting to talk about a plea deal, which damaged Donnelly’s standing.

Donnelly was never permitted to return to work for the Homicide Bureau as a result of the failure, and inexperienced ADAs who committed awkward errors would come to be known as “doing a Donnelly.” Following a few years as the Bureau Chief ADA, Donnelly was promoted to the position of judge. However, throughout her tenure in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, she oversaw both Alexandra Cabot and Casey Novak, Cabot’s successor. Donnelly has overseen several of the cases that Novak has brought to trial.

Senior management in a district attorney’s office is referred to as a Bureau Chief (sometimes called a Unit Chief). They oversee specialized divisions and agencies that look into and prosecute particular offenses. Typically, the executive assistant district attorney who oversees the division to which these individuals report reports directly to them.

The show centers on the Ewings, a prosperous Dallas family with interests in cattle ranching and oil. Born during the first series, the characters are Christopher Ewing and John Ross Ewing III. Christopher is more interested in Southfork Ranch and renewable energy, whereas John Ross is fixated on power, money, and oil. John Ross wants to bring back the oil business for the Ewings.
