The album was released independently through CD Baby, and it was nominated for “Best Independent CD” by the Southbay Music Awards and praised by critics. In 2009, he sang on Jimmy Carter’s 85th birthday with the award-winning St. Genevieve High School chorale.
Before moving to New York in 2010, Curtis recorded his “One Man Band” song “Make it to the Bridge.” Curtis plays all instruments in the song’s YouTube video. In New York, he founded the band Mad Mongoose and released his next single “Shake It Off” in December 2013. TuneCore published the single separately. Curtis self-released his debut solo album “One Last Stand” in early 2015. Reverbnation highlighted a song from the album called “Home (Last Stand)”. A music video for the song was also released on YouTube. In 2019, Curtis released Elements, a progressive rock work that sampled poetry from his late father Jay Curtis.
Curtis starred in Let It Be on Broadway from July to September 2013. Critics lauded the show’s rendition of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” in which Curtis sung and played the guitar solo, as the play’s highlight. JT launched History of Rock, an online music education show on YouTube, in 2014. Jay Curtis oversaw it until his death in 2018, when JT took over. Each episode focuses on one decade at a time, with written comic parts interspersed with songs and anecdotes from that era. Curtis’ other videos feature individual rock performers, bands, or albums. In 2021, Curtis created Atomic Rod Reunion, a podcast musical with original music.
