Davis’ acting career began at the age of three. After nine years of acting, she landed her first television role as Sarah Powell on the sitcom Charles in Charge, which ran for 104 episodes. Powell was a quiet, bookish figure, and after Charles in Charge ended, Davis struggled to shake that image and persuade people to forget the persona she created and view her as outgoing. Davis studied acting with Brooklyn native Paul E. Richards, Lee Strasberg’s “right-hand man” at the Actors Studio in the 1950s. At the age of 24, she auditioned for and was accepted into Actors Studio. At the time, the judges were Martin Landau, Mark Rydell, and Shelley Winters. Josie was one of just two performers invited to participate.
Davis starred as Camille Desmond in the drama Beverly Hills, 90210 for 11 episodes in 1998. In 2000, she was cast in another Aaron Spelling show, Titans, alongside Victoria Principal and Yasmine Bleeth. Her other television credits include Fear Itself opposite Clifton Collins Jr., Rules of Engagement with David Spade, Shark with James Woods, Ghost Whisperer, a Christmas episode of Two and a Half Men, NCIS, CSI: Miami, Burn Notice, Chuck, Bones, and a recurring role on CSI: NY opposite Skeet Ulrich and Gary Sinise.After Titans ended, Davis left television to pursue film employment. She appeared in films such as Sonny, directed by Nicolas Cage and starring James Franco and Scott Caan, and The Trouble.
In addition, Davis has dabbled in producing and screenwriting, having produced the television film The Perfect Assistant, which debuted on Lifetime on January 2, 2008. She also starred in the thrillers The Perfect Student, which starred Natasha Henstridge, Seduced by Lies, which starred Lochlyn Munro and Marc Menard, Past Obsession, which starred Lochlyn Munro, and the comedy Stealing Roses, which starred John Heard and Cindy Williams.
