John worked as a meteorologist on ABC7 Morning News and ABC7 News at 9 a.m. from April 4, 2005, to April 6, 2011, when he was assigned to the evening newscasts on a trial basis. “JP,” as he is known on television, was part of a team of eight meteorologists who offered 24-hour coverage of Hurricane Wilma’s landfall in October 2005, which was broadcast on WZVN and WBBH. For their coverage, the Waterman Broadcasting Team got a First Place Florida Associated Press Award. In 2007 and 2014, John got a second-place Florida Associated Press Award for Best Weathercast in a Medium-Sized Television Market.

John worked as the Morning Meteorologist at KNWA-TV in Fayetteville/Fort Smith, Arkansas, from January 2003 to March 2005. In December 2004, John was given the name Bes. In December 2004, John was voted Best TV Meteorologist in Northwest Arkansas by CitiScapes Magazine readers, defeating all three Chief Meteorologists in the market. John also worked for WJAC-TV in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where he did weather on the Saturday and Sunday newscasts at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.
