Jonathan Ross OBE is a film critic, comedian, actor, writer, and producer from England. During the 2000s, he hosted the BBC One chat show Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, hosted his own radio show on BBC Radio 2 from 1999 to 2010, and was a film critic and presenter of the Film programme.

Jonathan is the son of John and Martha Ross, and he has four brothers and one sister. He is the younger brother of Paul Ross, a journalist, television editor, and media personality.

Ross attended Norlington School for Boys and Leyton County High School for Boys, both comprehensive schools. He then attended Southampton College of Art before graduating with a degree in Modern European History from the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), which is now part of University College London.

Ross’ new talk show The Jonathan Ross Show premiered on ITV1 on September 3, 2011, with 4.3 million viewers, compared to 4.6 million for his finale on the BBC show. The first season lasted thirteen weeks.

ITV announced on October 20, 2014, that Ross had signed a new contract with them. In 2015, he presented two more series of his chatshow, as well as a Christmas Special on ITV, under his new contract. “Jonathan is the king of talk shows and a valued member of the ITV family,” said Elaine Bedell, Director of Entertainment and Comedy at ITV.

Ross’ first radio appearance was in 1987, when he filled in for Janice Long for two weeks on BBC Radio 1. In July 1999, Ross began hosting a Saturday morning show on BBC Radio 2. He has also hosted radio shows for Virgin Radio and The Superstation, a now-defunct commercial radio network service where his producer was Chris Evans. Ross’ show on Radio 2 was last broadcast on July 17, 2010, when his contract with the BBC expired.

Jonathan co-hosted the BBC comedy chat show Friday Night with Jonathan Ross in 2001. His interest in East Asian culture prompted him to create three seasons of the BBC Three show Japanorama, as well as another television series starring Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish. He posed the first question in Yahoo! Answers’ “Five Million Answers challenge” in 2006. He co-hosted BBC coverage of the Live Earth climate change awareness concerts in 2007. He appeared in Channel 4’s Comedy Gala in 2010, a benefit show for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

Ross announced his departure from the BBC on January 7, 2010. His final Friday Night chat show episode aired on July 16, 2010, with guests including David Beckham, Jackie Chan, Mickey Rourke, and Roxy Music. Patrick Kielty replaced Ross on Radio 2, and Graham Norton took over permanently on October 2, 2010.

Jonathan announced his departure from the BBC on January 7, 2010. He would be leaving all of his regular BBC roles, including his Friday night chat show, Radio 2 show, and film review programme. The announcement came a day after it was revealed that Graham Norton had signed a two-year contract with the BBC.
