Murray Bernthal, a musician, and producer, was his paternal grandfather. He has two brothers: Nicholas, an orthopedic surgeon, and UCLA professor, and Thomas, the CEO of a consulting firm married to millionaire and outgoing Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg.
