Hanson began his career as a stand-up comedian. He began appearing in films in the mid-to-late 1990s. He is the longest-running host of E!’s Talk Soup! entertainment network, hosting over 1,000 shows during his four-and-a-half-year tenure. While hosting Talk Soup, he guest-hosted Spirit of the Coast. In 2004, he hosted Spike TV’s short-lived The John Henson Project and has hosted several radio shows, including ABC’s The Best Commercials You’ve Never Seen, ABC’s The Best TV Show You’ve Never Seen, and most recently, the 33rd Annual Daytime Creative Emmy Awards. Henson was a member of Watch This! from 2005 to 2007. Henson has also produced many on-air commercials for MSNBC and CNN, in addition to being the local host of My Name Is Earl. Henson hosted the ABC obstacle course game show Wipeout from 2008 to 2014, always ending the show with the catchphrase “Goodnight, Big Balls,” a reference to the show’s signature obstacle.
