Joanna Cassidy is an American actress and former model. She began modeling in the 1960s and made her professional acting debut in 1973 with roles in the thriller flicks The Laughing Policeman and The Outfit. She went on to star in the short-lived television shows The Roller Girls and 240-Robert, as well as the films Bank Shot and The Late Show. In 1982, she portrayed replicant Zhora Salome in the science fiction thriller Blade Runner.

Cassidy was born Joanna Virginia Caskey in Camden, New Jersey, and is the daughter of Virginia and Joe Caskey. She was reared in Haddonfield and attended Haddonfield Memorial High School, where she was regarded as “a rowdy kid”. She is well known for her infectious, screaming laugh, which can be heard in the film The Laughing Policeman and on her appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Cassidy majored in painting at Syracuse University. During her tenure there, she married Kennard C. Kobrin, a resident doctor, and worked as a fashion model. Blade Runner
Her first major feature film role came in 1982, when she played the replicant Zhora in Blade Runner. Tyrell Corporation and its successor, the Wallace Corporation, created a replicant, a genetically engineered, bio-enhanced person with para-physical powers, “composed entirely of organic substance,” for slave labor. The Tyrell motto read, “More human than human.”
Replicants were frequently referred to as “skinjobs” or “skinners,” because they were nearly identical to non-engineered humans but for their sympathetic abilities. These terms were considered slurs. Throughout the existence of replicants, different groups for and against their independence emerged.
Tyrell Corporation introduced replicators, or bioengineered humans made of biological materials, in 2000. They possess great strength, speed, agility, resilience, and intellect. The supreme replicant, the Nexus-6, is stronger and faster than humans and has been engineered to survive for four years. Following a mutiny in 2018, the law prohibited replicants from existing anywhere on Earth other than the industrial complex where they were manufactured. Special police forces known as “Blade Runners” were tasked with tracking down and retiring replicants.
Replicants lack empathy, making them typical sociopaths. Eldon Tyrell attempted to remedy this by imbuing replicants with memories from their past, so providing an emotional cushion. Rachael, a Nexus-7 replicant implanted with Tyrell’s niece’s memories, served as an experimental reproduction model. The Nexus-8 model was released in 2020, with open-ended lifespans and serial numbers to facilitate identification.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
She became well-known for her portrayal as Dolores in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.Eddie Valiant’s girlfriend, Dolores, works as a waitress in a tavern and assisted Eddie in solving the case against Judge Doom.
Too Late
She appeared as Eleanor Mahler in the 2015 American independent drama film Too Late.Dorothy Mahler, a young girl, is trekking near downtown Los Angeles when two street traders, Jesse and Mathew, contact her. She borrows Samson’s phone and contacts him to request his assistance in investigating a drug-related incident. Dorothy obtains ecstasy from the sellers and speaks with Skippy Fontaine, a park ranger. Fontaine attacks and strangles her, believing she has overdosed. Jesse and Matthew flee in terror, but Samson comes too late to discover her death.
Samson arrives at the home of sleazy strip club owner Gordy, who reveals his identity and the reason for Dorothy’s death. Janet, enraged by Samson’s story, kills Gordy and Roger before turning the gun on herself. Samson then meets Dorothy at a strip club and sings a song at a nearby establishment. He confronts Fontaine in a drive-in theater, but Fontaine kills him.
Samson approaches Dorothy’s grandmother and mother about taking her case, but is attacked and shot by Jesse and Matthew, who believe Dorothy died from the drugs they gave her. They flee, and Samson enters his car with painful but treatable injuries.
