Jo Ling Kent is an American reporter. She has formerly worked for NBC, Fox Business, and CNN, and is currently a CBS News correspondent. Kent worked as a translator and writer for ABC News Beijing.

Career

Following his graduation from college in 2008, Kent was employed in Beijing by ABC News as a writer and translator. Kent, having graduated from the London School of Economics, would eventually return to Beijing to work as an associate producer for CNN. Working as a field producer during the 2011 Chinese pro-democracy rallies in Beijing on February 27, 2011, Kent spent thirty minutes being held by police in Wangfujing with CNN reporter Eunice Yoon. As they were covering the demonstrations, a cop roughly dragged them into a bank where multiple other journalists were being held, and took Kent’s camera out of her hands.

Kent began working as a field reporter and blogger for Connecticut’s WVIT, an NBC affiliate, in 2012. In 2013, she started working as a technology correspondent for Fox Business Network. Kent worked as an NBC News correspondent from 2016 to 2023. A flash-bang grenade from the Seattle Police Department struck Kent on-air in June 2020 when she was covering the George Floyd protests in Seattle, Washington. She sustained some garment burns from the gadget, but no serious injuries. Kent was given a COVID-19 vaccination in April 2021 while she was pregnant with her second child, as part of a broadcast regarding the vaccine and pregnancy. In 2023, Kent became a part of CBS News.
